Pastor Troy teaching about our beliefs as a church in Overland Park, KS

BELIEFS

  • The entire Old & New Testament scriptures are the unchanging, inspired word of God. We hold it as the absolute authority in all matters pertaining to the Christian life & doctrine. Psalm 119:89,105 // 2 Timothy 3:16  // 2 Peter 1:20-21 // Hebrews 4:12

  • There is one eternal God who created all things. He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, & God the Holy Spirit. Matthew 3:13-17 //  1 John 5:7

  • The bible states that Jesus is the way, the truth, & the life. Salvation is a free gift from God, received by grace through faith & cannot be earned by any human efforts.
    John 14:6 //  Ephesians 2:8-9

  • Without Jesus' resurrection, His story is merely just that, only a good story. The bible states that not only was Jesus raised from the dead, but because Jesus rose, now death is not the final say for any human being. 2 Corinthians 5:8 // Hebrews 6:2 // 1 Corinthians 15:12-23,55 // Romans 1:3-4

  • The Holy Spirit is given to the believer at the time of salvation & is there to help us live victorious lives in Christ. He shouldn't be an after thought! Instead He is to have an active role in the life of every believer. We believe in the full manifestation of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. John 14:16-18 // Acts 1:8 // Acts 2:1-4 // 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

  • The Holy Spirit demonstrates His presence through many spiritual gifts with the purpose of building and purifying the Church, confirming the reality of Christ's resurrection, and affirming the power of the Gospel. These gifts can work together in different ways. All believers are urged by God's word to actively seek these gifts in their lives. However, it's crucial to note that these gifts should always align with the teachings of the Scriptures and should never be misused in violation of biblical principles. Romans 1:11 // Romans 12:4-8, // 1 Corinthians 12:1-31 // 1 Corinthians 14:1-40 // Ephesians 4:16 // 1 Timothy 4:14 // 2 Timothy 1:5-16 // Hebrews 2:5 // 1 Peter 4:10

  • We believe in the transformative and empowering power of God. Rooted in our faith, we hold firm to the conviction that the Holy Spirit is actively at work in the lives of believers today. Acts 2:4 // 1 Corinthians 12:7 // James 5:14-15 // 2 Peter 1:3 // 2 Corinthians 13:4

  • The process of allowing salvation to work from our "inner" life to our "outer" life is called sanctification. God is holy & righteous & He desires who we are & what we do to be a reflection of Him. 1 Peter 1:15-16 // Philippians 2:12 // Ephesians 4:11-15 // Romans 12:1-2

  • Each individual's decision to reject or accept salvation through Jesus Christ determines our eternal destination of either heaven or hell. John 3:16 // Romans 6:23

  • One provision of Jesus' finished work on the cross is healing for the believer, body & soul. Jesus declared that the Father's will for us is to enjoy abundant life & we believe this includes physical healing, received by faith in the scriptures. John 10:10 // 1 Peter 2:24 // Mark 11:22-24

  • This is an ordinance given to believers to practice remembering Jesus' death & resurrection. The elements, usually bread & juice, are simply tokens that represent His body that was broken & His blood that was shed for our sins. 1 Corinthians 11:28-32 // Matthew 26:26-28

  • Jesus commanded that all who call on His name be baptized in water as an outward display of their inward faith. Baptism cannot save anyone, but it is an important part of leaving your old life behind to follow this new life in Christ. Matthew 28:19 // Acts 2:37-39

At Chapel, our beliefs form the foundation of who we are and guide everything we do. They shape our community, inspire our worship, and direct our mission.
